More than 200 participants exchanged ideas intensively at the annual members' meeting of the Hydrogen Engine Alliance on September 11, 2024 and found out about vehicle projects and a wide variety of components related to the hydrogen combustion engine at the exhibition.
The focus of the exchange in the plenary session was on the following three topics:
Hydrogen as an energy source of the future
International view of hydrogen as an energy source
Hydrogen production and distribution
There were keynotes on each topic, followed by a panel discussion.
The keynotes were supplemented by video contributions from Franziska Brantner, Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection (BMWK), Economics Minister Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Tourism Baden-Württemberg and from Minister Hubert Aiwanger, Deputy Bavarian Prime Minister and State Minister for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs Bavaria.
There was broad agreement that hydrogen combustion engine technology can make a significant contribution to the rapid reduction of CO2 emissions, that its development has reached a high level of maturity, and that other countries such as India and the USA have made further progress in implementation (strategically and operationally) than Germany. This led to the next steps. These are: the creation of a binding legal framework and ensuring the security of supply at filling stations for the energy source hydrogen, including for commercial vehicles with hydrogen combustion engines.
